All Gave Some, Some Gave All
There is a phrase known far and wide,
Spoken witth tears and heart felt pride,
It rings forever in Hero's Hall;
"All gave some, some gave all."
A simple phrase to encapsulate such emotion,
Honor, Sacrifice, Patriotism, and other outworn notions;
Yet hundreds of thousands placed their lives on hold,
Risking everything with manner brave and bold.
That you and I might enjoy freedom this day,
Free from evil and foul tyranny's sway.
Believing the lives of the many outweigh the needs of the few;
Sacrificing health, limbs, and even lifeblood too.
Think of the alternative, had they chosen NOT to act;
Our lives would be far different, and that is fact.
Without their support to champion what is right,
Do you truly believe we would have won this fight?
From the crushing oppression of British rule,
To Hitler's Nazis who thought us all fools;
From the sands of Iwo Jima to jungles of Vietnam,
From nerve and mustard gas to the mighty atom bomb;
They proudly served our country, risking life and limb;
That you and I might live our life, and spend weekends at the gym.
Just one day a year we set aside, to honor all they gave;
To toast their memory and sacrifice, and decorate their grave.
